Alzheimer's Society Seek Help With Survey

The Alzheimer's Society’s public policy team launched a survey on 3rd March 2015 to find out about people’s experiences of receiving a dementia diagnosis in Wales. The survey is now available and your help is needed if we are to reach as many people with dementia as possible.

The survey asks people about their experiences prior to diagnosis, about what happened when they were given the diagnosis and about the support they received afterwards.  It will inform a report about the experience of receiving a diagnosis of dementia in Wales.  The survey has been informed by an internal project group and has been piloted by people with dementia at one of our Service User Review Panels.

Please follow the link below for full details and to see what you can do to help, or click here for a direct link to the Alzheimer's Society website and to take the survey.

Why is this important?

This is the first report that the public policy team has produced which will look solely at the experiences of people with dementia in Wales.  It will play an important role in improving our understanding of what it is like to live with dementia and enable us to campaign more effectively for improvements.

The final version of the  report will be launched at our Wales National Conference in October 2015.  This will be a key time for putting dementia on the agenda in the run up to the Welsh Assembly elections in 2016.  In order to maximise these opportunities for influencing, we need as many responses to the survey as possible.  A strong response rate will help ensure dementia remains a high priority at forthcoming elections, in manifestos, for civil servants and for local health and care leaders.

How can I get involved?

Surveys can either be distributed to service users or people with dementia can be supported to complete them by staff or volunteers as part of an activity.  You will best know what will work well in your area, but I am happy to discuss possibilities with you and support you where I can and as best as I am able.

We would very much appreciate your assistance in making sure that the voice of people with dementia is heard as clearly as possible. If you are able and willing to be involved please discuss this with your role manager and then email me to let me know how many copies of the survey you would like sent to you.

The survey can also be completed online or downloaded from our website and returned via email. The survey will close on Monday 15 June.

Finally we would also be very grateful if you could share information about this project in your local newsletters or in any other way you think is appropriate.  I would be happy to supply text for articles if that would be helpful.

How can I find out more information?

Information about the project and copies of the survey are available in English at www.alzheimers.org.uk/diagnosisWales and in Welsh at www.alzheimers.org.uk/diagnosisCymru.

There is also an Arena page (the Society’s intranet) which will be regularly updated with progress on the project.

If you have any questions about the project, please do not hesitate to contact me on 029 2047 5580 or alice.southern@alzheimers.org.uk.

Many thanks for all your help with this important project.
