Beat It - An Exciting New Initiative for Powys

Beat It Percussion CIC was incorporated in 2013 and aims to take multi-sensory hands-on music activities into the community.

In partnership with Glasbury-based Community Group, A Different Beat, our new Lottery funded pilot project will enable us to work with people who are living with dementia in Powys. A series of music making sessions will take place in several Care Homes in the Brecon area. It is hoped that this Pilot will lead to the creation of a larger-scale project  across the whole of Powys.

Lynn Kay from Beat It Percussion says: ‘This is a new venture for Powys and we are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with local Care Homes. Our music activities offer a creative intervention which helps people living with dementia overcome the social isolation they are often faced with.  This is much more than simple entertainment – people are supported to make music themselves and have a lot of fun doing it. There is already a great deal of interest from Care Homes and volunteer helpers.  We are glad to have the support of the local Alzheimer’s Society who are a great source of information and support. ‘

In addition to working with people who have dementia in Powys, Beat It is active across Herefordshire and the West Midlands where we are delivering activities in many Care Homes and Day Services for older people as well as in Special Schools and other Community settings.
