Clyro is the latest primary school in Powys to commit to becoming Dementia Friendly, taking its first step towards this goal by hosting a Dementia Awareness session which was attended by a combined group of 28 year 4, 5 and 6 pupils. The children engaged immediately, asked extremely intelligent and searching questions and were all enthusiastic about becoming Dementia Friends. Every child committed to a positive action, from always wearing the Dementia Friendly badge to visiting neighbours who are living with dementia and being kind and understanding.

Clyro School's next step will be to host a Dementia-themed coffee afternoon during Dementia Awareness Week, which will be organised by the year 6 pupils and to which Brecon Area Dementia Friendly Community will take an information stand. Following this, an inter-generational project is being planned involving the school and Hay Day Cafe. There is a real commitment and enthusiasm throughput the school, from the head, Sarah Groves, staff and pupils, to make the school Dementia Friendly and to be part of the ultimate goal of creating a Dementia Friendly Generation and they're well on their way. Well done Clyro!
