As part of Powys County Council’s commitment towards becoming dementia-friendly, on Friday 12th June at the Council Chamber in County Hall Llandrindod Wells, 39 Councillors took part in a Dementia Friends session and became Dementia Friends. The session was led by Rhiannon Davies who went on to speak about the role the members could take both as Councillors and individuals in the development of Powys as a Dementia Friendly County, and the importance of partnership working. As well as Brecon, there were representatives from Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Hay on Wye and Ystradgynlais each giving an update on their progress.
Cllr Dawn Bailey also spoke in her capacity as Dementia Champion for Powys County Council, informing everyone of her role and her commitment, and the progress made within the Council to-date. The whole session was very lively, with a lot of very positive engagement and enthusiasm. Another big step to us all working together to make a difference!
On Monday 20th July, working in collaboration with the Care Council for Wales, Powys County Council will be holding a Dementia Reception at the Royal Welsh show highlighting the dementia-friendly work that is currently taking place within Powys.
