The Alzheimer’s Society Wales held its regional conference at All Nation Church Cardiff on 9th October. Open to members, people with dementia, carers and volunteers, the event attracted over 150 delegates.
Presentations were made by a number of guest speakers and there was also the opportunity to hear from Society staff and volunteers about projects they are currently doing to support people in Wales. Having spoken at the conference last year about the initiative in Brecon, Rhiannon Davies, Chair of the Brecon and Hay Dementia Supportive Community Group, and lead on Making Brecon a Dementia Friendly Community was asked to give an update and introduce the Official Recognition Process. Her presentation led to a great deal of interest, and there have been a number of enquiries from other communities in Wales seeking to become dementia-friendly.
