Dementia Awareness Week 2017 Review

A belated round-up of Dementia Awareness Week 2017: it was hard work but really satisfying. I think that we packed quite a lot into the week in Brecon, including fantastic events in three primary schools, all organised and managed by year 6 pupils.

No fewer than 11 organisations attended our Information & Advice event, and a special mention must go to Brecon Museum: their vintage dresses and shoes proved to be a particular highlight, especially with the boys from Llanfaes and Llangorse schools who absolutely loved dressing up in them!

Our Friday afternoon Tea Dance proved to be popular, and it was wonderful to see so many members of the Tea & Chat group up dancing and really enjoying the music and the whole event.

It was a real delight to welcome Nigel and his peers from Fuse & Muse in Swansea, and he was hugely impressed by the Llanfaes and Llangorse children who really do epitomise a Dementia Friendly Generation.

We rounded the week off with a fundraising bag pack in Brecon Co-op, and the generosity of local shoppers was outstanding. We also managed to squeeze three Dementia Awareness sessions in! Two were delivered to staff and customers in Brecon Jobcentre, making 17 new Dementia Friends and the third was attended by staff in Brecon Medical Practice.

Altogether a great week and many thanks to everyone who supported us.
