Brookside Arts project is an arts project for Brookside Care Home, an older persons’ residential and nursing home, in the village of Llangorse, Brecon. The initiative also involves Llangorse Church in Wales Primary School, creating inter-generational links between the school and the care home.
This is a pilot scheme run in collaboration with Dementia Friendly Brecon. It forms part of ‘Caban’ an Arts and Health Project cycle that Arts Alive Wales is undertaking to support positive emotional and mental health. It is hoped that the artists, school and care home participating in the project will contribute to a wider understanding of the role that the arts can play in helping older people remain meaningfully active, engaged and connected to their communities, their carers and to their own sense of self.
The project also aims to educate children and young people about dementia; removing stigma and providing the opportunity for interaction with people with dementia to create a truly dementia –friendly generation.
