Having delivered a Dementia Friends session last term to Llangynidr School staff, Dementia Champion Joan Brown returned on Tuesday and did a session with Year 5 and 6 pupils. "They were great!" said Joan. "They really engaged and thoroughly enjoyed all of the exercises and were very enthusiastic about becoming Dementia Friends."
Joan made 26 new Dementia Friends at the school and was also delighted to present the head teacher, Karen Jenkins, with a sign for the school to display to demonstrate having been officially awarded the status of Working Towards Being Dementia Friendly.
The class teacher, Sarah Rees, had already talked to the children about undertaking a project, and they have decided to make a sensory allotment and they plan to invite residents from Oaklands, a local care home, to visit and enjoy. Planning has started so watch this space for developments!
