The Older People's Commissioner for Wales invites you to join her for the launch of her Impact and Reach Report 2015-16. Come and meet the Commissioner for Wales to find out about the work she has been doing to improve the lives of older people across Wales and her priorities for the future. Following on from the success of the Brecon Dementia Supportive Communities event in November 2015, a similar event has just been held in the North of Powys. The event was well supported and has inspired those attending to think about what more they can do to make their community more dementia friendly.
A big thank you to the Level 1 and 2 Health and Beauty students at Brecon NPTC Group College who raised over £200 for Brecon Dementia Friendly Community as part of their two day Community Challenge. Pictured below are the students including some of the students in action selling cakes, coffee and raffle tickets and getting ready to give Pamper Sessions throughout the two day challenge. They money raised will go directly towards helping those in our community living with or caring for someone living with dementia.
This year's Dementia Awareness Week, 15 – 21 May, will encourage people who are worried about dementia to confront their worries by addressing dementia directly and seeking information and support.
Dementia can be scary and many people don't know where to turn, but Brecon Dementia Friendly Community is here to help anyone affected, because we believe that life doesn't end when dementia begins.

Come and join us at The Muse in Brecon for an informative Dementia Friends Information Session running as part of Dementia Awareness Week. The hour long session will enable attendees to learn more about what it is like to live with dementia and how to turn that understanding into positive and practical action to help people living with dementia in our community. Arts Alive Wales Dementia Arts Taster Day - On 10 May 2016 Arts Alive Wales are running an arts taster day as part of the week long Gwanwyn Festival in Crickhowell. This free event is for adults living with a diagnosis of dementia and families, friends and carers that support them. The art workshops will give everyone a chance to explore their own creativity in a calm and relaxed venue. Further arts workshops will be running from 24 May, also in Crickhowell.

On hand will be advice and information, support for young onset dementia, information about local activities, opportunities for volunteering and information on how to involve young people.

Brecon and Hay Dementia Supportive Community warmly invites you to attend a public meeting to explore the potential for setting up a Meeting Centre Support Programme in the Brecon area. This centre would provide accessible, practical information, personal advice, emotional and social support for those living with dementia and their carers and families.Read more
Part 9 of the Social Services and Well Being Act establishes a Regional Partnership Board in Powys to oversee the delivery of health and social care services with and to the people of Powys.
PAVO (Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations) has been asked to implement and support a process for recruiting representatives of service users and carers to the board.This is a very important opportunity for people and carers to influence decisions about what matters to them.
