It's that time of year again! Dementia Awareness Week will run from 14th to 20th May and, as usual, there'll be lots of activity in Brecon, especially on Friday 19th when we'll be in Theatr Brycheiniog all day.

The Second Powys Dementia Network meeting has been set for Wednesday, 29 March 2017 in Brecon, Powys.
The inter-generational project involving Llanfaes C.P. School and Trenewydd Care Home has been running for almost two years. During the life of the project very real friendships have been formed and affection has grown between all involved and when, as is inevitable one of our friends dies, we feel a real and genuine sadness. Never has this been felt more deeply than when Haydn Davies passed away suddenly on 18th February 2017.

This donation will be used to fund local initiatives which aim to support people living with dementia, and their carers, and help them to continue to live well and to remain active members of the community, so many thanks to Brecon Business Club, their support is greatly appreciated by all concerned.
Lewis Lloyd, on behalf of The Children's Commissioner for Wales and in partnership with The Older People's Commissioner, recently visited Trenewydd Care Home in order to make a video featuring the inter-generational project between the home and Llanfaes CP School. Theatr Brycheiniog are very excited to begin working with Beat It Percussion a community interest group dedicated to working with older people and those living with dementia to provide community drumming sessions here at the theatre. The dementia-friendly sessions will be for older adults who are looking for something creative and social to get involved in, and will bring people together to play drums, chat and more importantly have fun. The sessions help improve coordination and give participants a sense of achievement, as well as helping to combat isolation and loneliness for those who may otherwise not have an opportunity to socialize.
