The inter-generational project involving Llanfaes C.P. School and Trenewydd Care Home has been running for almost two years. During the life of the project very real friendships have been formed and affection has grown between all involved and when, as is inevitable one of our friends dies, we feel a real and genuine sadness. Never has this been felt more deeply than when Haydn Davies passed away suddenly on 18th February 2017.Read more

Theatr Brycheiniog are very excited to begin working with Beat It Percussion a community interest group dedicated to working with older people and those living with dementia to provide community drumming sessions here at the theatre. The dementia-friendly sessions will be for older adults who are looking for something creative and social to get involved in, and will bring people together to play drums, chat and more importantly have fun. The sessions help improve coordination and give participants a sense of achievement, as well as helping to combat isolation and loneliness for those who may otherwise not have an opportunity to socialize.Read more
During the time that our inter-generational project between Llanfaes School and Trenewydd Care Home has been operating, real friendships have grown between the children and residents; Karen Lawrence, head of Llanfaes and I, (Dementia Friends Champion), also value the friendships formed with residents, and so it is such a sad day when one of our friends passes away.
The schools and care homes involved in our Dementia Friendly Inter-Generational projects thoroughly enjoyed sharing Christmas celebrations during the final sessions of their term last year.
Trenewydd residents joined in carol singing with the choir from Llanfaes School, and then shared a lovely buffet lunch that turned into a picnic! As well as singing and chatting, some of the children enjoyed dancing with Hazel, one of our very good friends. A great day all round and we look forward to more intergenerational projects and celebrations in 2017!
The Co-op recently became the latest business in Brecon to have achieved the status of Working Towards Becoming Dementia Friendly. Two sessions were delivered to staff, who were really interested, engaged and committed to supporting any of their customers needing additional help. Store manager Josh Morris was delighted to be presented with a sign which is now proudly displayed in the shop.
In Brookside Care Home the year 6 pupils from Llangorse School sang all of the songs from their Christmas concert, which was a novel and original telling of traditional Bible stories. The residents were enthralled, and family careers who were visiting on the day thoroughly enjoyed it too.
