Living Through Landscapes - Innovative New Project

Living through Landscapes is an innovative new project designed to support people with dementia by transforming outdoor spaces at 30 care homes throughout the UK. The project aims to support settings to improve the use of outdoor space through a ‘dementia friendly’ consultation and engagement process, landscape changes, and training and support to care settings. Thirty settings will be directly funded throughout the three years of the project, but the resources developed including podcast or online versions of training and the garden designs will be available to any other setting who would like to take steps to improve the use of their own outside space.

Follow this link http://dementiagarden.org.uk/about/ to find out all about the project and how you could apply for a place on the project for your care home.

Announcing Dementia Matters in Powys

Dementia_matters_Powys.jpg                                                    Dementia_matters_Powys_WELSH.jpg

The organisation, Dementia Matters in Powys, has grown out of a grass roots initiative, the Brecon Area Dementia Friendly Community. Led by community volunteers, the project’s strength lies in its partnership and facilitative approach; seeking out and sharing good practice, networking and linking with other organisations and agencies, highlighting potential and resources, and within all of this giving a voice to those living with dementia so all outcomes are based on identified need.  Fundamental to this way of working is the importance of doing things ‘with’ people rather than ‘for’ them, thus creating a community that respects, values and empowers those living with dementia and their carers, promoting independence and choice.

New Declutter Project for Older People

Care and Repair Cymru are applying for funding to run a new project to help older people stay safe in their own homes.  The initiative - known as The Attic Project - aims to help older people keep on top of their possessions and belongings, preventing the build up of too much 'clutter' which can become hazardous.  The assistance would comprise practical help with sorting and sifting items to keep homes safe.  Click here to read all about the proposed project and here if you would like to complete and return their questionnaire.
