In October 2015 sessions were delivered to year 5 and 6 pupils in Mount Street Junior School and 48 children became new Dementia Friends. To build on their new-found knowledge and to show their commitment to the aims of the Dementia Friends Initiative, they held a coffee afternoon to which family members were invited. The children made dementia-themed cakes, and produced posters giving information about dementia. A group of the pupils also gave a presentation about dementia which was excellent and incorporated virtually all of the messages from the awareness session. The children loved sharing what they’d learned and demonstrating their commitment and everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. In addition to all of this the afternoon raised several hundred pounds to support the development of further Brecon-based projects.
