On 23 January 2016, in the Ballroom of the Castle Hotel, County Councillor, Paul Ashton, and his wife, Valmai, hosted a charity dinner in order to raise funds for, and awareness of, ongoing work to make Powys a dementia-friendly County.
Rhiannon Davies and Joan Brown, joint Chairs of Brecon Dementia Friendly Community, gave a presentation about the work in Brecon to raise awareness of the need for dementia-friendly communities. The presentation was well received and generated much interest and discussion.
The evening was a great success and those attending enjoyed a three course dinner and lively discussion about the great work being done in Brecon and across the County. Over sixty people supported the evening travelling from neighbouring Local Authorities including Neath and Port Talbot, the Vale of Glamorgan, Flintshire, Monmouthshire, Caerphilly, Camarthenshire and Merthyr Tydfil. A very impressive £1,400 was also raised to support the ongoing work for dementia-friendly communities across Powys.
